Fast growing Germany based start-up SoundCloud move to EveryCity

February 5th, 2009

SoundCloud is an innovative, exciting and highly accessible new way for DJs, Music Producers, and Artists to download and share music. Users are able to exchange the music they are working on, ensuring easy collaboration and distribution. Where previously the only way to send the huge high quality files was by using cheap tacky tools this completely dispels any problems receiving, sending or distributing music via the web.

For example, if you are a DJ and you have just created a track, you can send audio files really quickly and securely to your label, or even distribute straight to users through email addresses or networking sites such as Facebook, and receive music just as quickly by embedding a “drop-box” on your blog or profile.

SoundCloud are operating on EveryCity’s hybrid cloud solution.  Whereby their backend storage and music file processing takes place on AWS EC2 & S3 and their front end web app is with EveryCity.

Their app is within our virtualised environments, coupled with their database on a dedicated high-performance Sun database server.  This brings the best of both worlds allowing complete flexibility with the app as well as ensuring low latency between the app & DB.

The whole implementation was made possible through the Sun StartUps Essentials program, which helps start-ups to get off the ground cheaply and rapidly by offering access to free and discounted products, services and PR. Sun makes reliable hardware and software, and EveryCity ensures that the execution of this equipment runs smoothly.
