Office 2.0 - A dream or a reality?
April 29th, 2008
Everyone has heard about Office 2.0 and if you haven’t you have now. The basic concept is that there is no longer a need to actually install any applications on your computer other than a browser and the rest can be done server-side/online.
The other key point that most people are picking up on, is that they don’t have to follow the Microsoft train, instead they can use a whole host of free, semi-free and pay services instead.
Our Favourites:
CRM: Sugar CRM Open Source Edition
Pros: Very Complete, supports high numbers of users & customer
Cons: You need to pay for a hosted version, not as fast as we’d like.
We Say: It’s very good if you’re a sales person who isn’t able to focus on the task 100% of the time and will help you keep track of what’s going on.
Online Office: ThinkFree
Pros: It’s just like office, except it’s free & all your files are online
Cons: No Mail Merge, not quite as fast as you would hope
We Say: If you’re a designer, web-developer or anyone who hardly uses office this .
Online Survey Builer/Form: Wufoo
Pros: Really easy to use & produces professional forms
Cons: None to mention
We Say: Do it, do it now. Great for surveying clients or anyone else!
If you want to find more Office 2.0 Apps there is a great directory of them at the Office 2.0 Database
